Susan Ducey's Stances on the Issues

Abortion

I am a Pro-Life candidate and believe that each individual is made in the image of God and, therefore, is given the right to life regardless of the circumstances of conception.

A child conceived by incest or the violence of rape should be given an opportunity to thrive in the world. If it is too painful for the mother to keep the child, counseling and support should be tried and if there is still a problem, there is always adoption.

The excuse of poverty or deformity will not sway my thoughts toward the "quality of life" issue because poverty is not a static state, but even if it was it is still better than death. As far as handicaps are concerned, I know many people who are disabled and none of them have told me they wished they had been aborted. Should someone who does not yet know them be allowed to determine their existence or kill them once born? Just as the quality of my life should not be determined by someone other than myself, no one should determine the quality of life of the unborn child.

We can not let our society become so obsessed with death that we are quick to think of abortion or euthanasia; instead we must think of the importance of each person's value to the world.

If the mother's life is in danger then treatment should be given to save her life even if it may be harmful to the fetus. If this fails and the mother has been given all alternatives, removal of the fetus should be done with the proper medical attention given to preserve the life of the child if possible, in which case, the term should be to "deliver" not abort.

I have heard people say that if their daughter was raped and became pregnant they would not want her to go through the trauma of delivering a baby; but what these same parents do not understand is that there is much more trauma to a girl or woman who realizes that she has stopped the life of her own child and received no protective support from her family, friends or spiritual leaders. Relationships are often damaged for years and in some cases are never healed.

Abortion steals a part of the very being of womanhood, and goes against our strong desire to bear and nurture children. Because of the emotional trauma of abortion a large number of women have a baby in a year or two anyway, so she might as well bear this child.

Life is precious, let's protect it.

Servant Leadership

There are many who believe there is an elite born to lead and the rest of us must follow.

I say, we are all leaders, therefore, to be an effective leader one must be a servant, willing to sacrifice for those who follow.

Servant leadership is knowing that others could do the leading but are willing to let me lead instead, trusting that their best interests are my primary thought.

For too long we have had an almost "Royalty" exerting power over those below them, lying to be reelected and so the oppression continues.

But no more! We have become wise and realize there is something we can do. The "Ordinary American" is the back bone of this country.  WE pay the taxes, WE fight the wars and WE build a strong economy

It is time for the President, the congress, and the judges to realize that they are the ones on the bottom, not us.

Instead of a pyramid with one at the top ruling downward, we should turn it upside down with the many above. "We the people..." are at the top!

Those in the State house and the White House are there to do what we want. We send legislators to represent us, not to get there and use their power to lord it over us, thereby, making us "peasants."

Is the system working right when Americans resent those in politics or when we suffer instead of prosper because there is too much social engineering and not enough support of the entrepreneur?

There are those in government who hate success and when we prosper the motto is "You are successful; you must be punished.

Negative behavior is encouraged and the behavior we hope and pray our children will have is discouraged.

If we want to see America great again, we must take back the power the Founders intended us to have.

We need to pay attention to what our officials are really doing and stop voting for them just because we know their names. Hold them accountable for their votes and recall them if they consistently vote against our will.

We must support candidates who will find honor in being chosen to serve, not those who find their egos and personal power growing ever larger.

We can alleviate much of the problem by voting and supporting those we want. We must not be afraid the one we don't want will get elected it we don't vote for the "lessor of two evils".

Our one voice does matter if we will only join together and take action.

It is time to stop being invisible citizens and know that we can overcome the tradition of only having the rich and famous or career politicians run for office. We can work together as "Ordinary Americans" to see our country brought back to the Constitution's original intent of liberty and freedom.

Take courage and have hope for a renewed America!

Welfare

There is an underclass of people living in the United States, those living on Public Assistance. Taking money by force from the general populace through the tax system and giving it to strangers is unacceptable to many citizens.

It is not the idea of helping people that is upsetting but, is instead, the taking of money that took hard work to earn and giving it to a legislature to redistribute to others which is in dispute.

However to just say that we should stop welfare tomorrow would not stop many of the underlying problems of a system that has gotten out of hand; for it is often the very fact that welfare is an anonymous act which fuels the large numbers of recipients who apply for money from the government. Many people who get assistance do have family or friends who could help them financially but they do not want anyone to know there is a need. Many are members of churches or other religious groups that have ministries to help those in need as well, but the pride factor kicks in and no one knows the need.

Over the years I have known of those on welfare who want their own place and do not share living arrangements, or they could live at home with family but don't want to because of personality conflicts or pride.

I do not, however, solely blame the person on welfare for this mind set. Often the family members will rationalize that since they pay taxes the money is there to give to their family and friends. To get the system to change we must change the minds of the welfare receiver toward finding work, collecting child support, and asking friends, family and charity organizations for help and change the attitude of their friends and families. Just the need to ask for help would be motivation enough for many to get a job because that would create accountability to and expectations from the givers.

In the cases where there is resource I do not feel that the taxpayers should be responsible for the choices of others. It is the responsibility of the mother and father of a child to support that child and not the responsibility of the rest of society. Too many boys have children, even seven or eight of them and then decide that if the girl is pregnant she should have an abortion or go on welfare. Too many states are lax in locating the fathers, with the government merely stepping in and giving money. Instead we should tell the boys that they must find work to financially support their children even if they must drop out of school to do so. The mothers should work and support the children or , with the permission of the father, put them up for adoption or let other family members have them.

The moral aspects of welfare cannot be ignored because these same moral decisions impact all of society. We can no longer go by the "feeling" that we are doing the right thing by giving welfare and food stamps to people because of the children, when in reality the majority of these same children have other resources.

It is the teaching in school and on T.V. that says it is okay to have sex at any age, stealing the childhood away from the innocent children. Tell the children it is never right to have sex before marriage and we have few out of wedlock births. We need to teach respect for each other, what is right and wrong and stop accepting an "anything goes" mentality before we can really change welfare as we know it.

I was on welfare for several years and there were times when I should not have been; but I fit the criteria and I received money. I had resourses but did not like those choices.

Welfare takes away the dignity of the human spirit and is an enabler to the continued dependency on a system that is supposed to lift people out of despair and poverty. In reality it creates and perpetuates the life of misery and helplessness.

We give the wrong message by saying if people study and work hard, and refrain from sex before marriage they might get to college to better their lives. We tell those who commit crimes, do drugs or have babies out of wedlock the government will supply money to go to college, pay for room and board and child care and help them find a job. Is this really what we want to say?

We must expect Americans to work and take care of themselves when they are able-bodied and to require personal responsibility.

Education

We have the ability to have the best educational system in the world but, unfortunately, we have given up being the best for being the most "socially conscious".

I am all for the concept of public and private educational institutions but can not accept what has happened to them.

Outcome based education (OBE) and sex education are just two of the things I find most objectionable and, in part, because of these two things, had my children removed from school and home schooled them instead.  I would have liked to have kept them in the public school system, of which I am a graduate, but the quality of the education is wanting.

So often children are being taught to have "feelings" about facts, such as history, and are not getting the truth. Instead they are being taught to be politically correct. Teaching children history by changing history to fit the desires of the National Education Association and not the history of fact does no service to our children. Grading on how students feel about history is a hard concept to believe, but it happens in many schools across the nation.

To not be able to pass to the next grade or graduate from high school without first passing a politically correct test that has nothing to do with facts or intellect is more like tyranny than education and is unsupported by knowledgeable Americans. These tests are very difficult for parents to obtain for review because those in charge do not want what they are doing to be exposed.

Statistically, we see that teaching kids how to have "protected" or "safe" sex has not decreased the incidence of pregnancy or STDs but has, instead, increased the numbers causing undo pain and suffering and a great financial cost to our society. However, the government bureaucrats continue to teach sexual activity by showing pornographic films and books, and distributing condoms to the students without parental consent. The entire sex-ed program has been a failure and should be completely removed from the educational system.  It is up to the parents to decide whether or not to teach their children about sex, not the government. It is hard to continue one's education with a baby or illness. Government is supposed to protect the people not endorse dangerous behaviors.

Parents are the best ones to decide the educational needs of their children and the government has no right to usurp that authority. As a parent I feel we need to teach the children how to read, write, speak well, do math, understand the use of computers, learn historical facts, and be accountable for their behavior. Only then will we truly be competitive in a world market.

One way to help achieve this goal is school choice for any school, making our educational institutions more competitive, increasing quality while, at the same time, decreasing the unnecessary and propagandized instruction that many of our schools utilize now.

As a mother who home schooled, I would have liked to have been able to keep some of my tax money to educate my kids at home.

I fully support the idea of public education, but there must be some drastic changes made to the system to bring it back to the quality it once had. Then and only then can we once again be at the top of the list instead of close to the bottom in the education of our children.

(Update in Progress)

Illegal Aliens

We can not continue to let the flood of illegal immigrants to threaten the American way of life. It is hard for us to turn away people who want to live here and have a better life, but to let them come is to change America forever. Our compassion for those less fortunate tells us to embrace all who wish to come here. That is just part of our culture, but if we do not change this way of thinking we will not be able to give ourselves a better life, let alone those of all the countries of the world. Americans are a generous people and we give large sums of money to those in need. We could give even more if our jobs paid more and were not being given to those who should not be here.

We are a country of laws and if we continue to make allowances for law breakers who sneak into America how can we tell our children they must follow the law? Should we then pick and choose the laws we follow simply because we may not agree with them? It would lead to chaos.

America took about 400 years to reach 300 million people; if the amnesty advocates have their way in just 20 years we could absorb another 100 million. Can we do it? I do not believe we can if we hope to maintain our standard of living. The illegal population is causing American wages to fall, unemployment to rise, and is creating suspicion of all those who speak with a foreign accent. The illegal aliens also send vast sums of money out of the country taking it out of our economy.

The illegal aliens do not come here to be Americans as seen by the recent protests where they were flying the Mexican flag above the American flag.

It is not only the open border to our south that has put us in danger but the north as well; although the south may be the more pressing. The many people who come here and overstay their visas also put us at risk. Terrorists and spies are sneaking in among the illegals.

Deporting illegal aliens immediately upon capture would be a discouragement to many and would encourage them to just stay in their own country. An illegal knows he is at risk of deportation and/or prison, hence, if he chooses to start a family, there is the possibility of separation. The news casts often show the sadness of losing a family member to deportation. It is hard, but it is the same for any person sentenced for a crime and taken away. Illegal aliens are not otherwise law abiding, either, because they lie to get the jobs Americans should get, they often have stolen or fake I.D. and are a drain to hospitals, schools and the general economy due to decreased revenues and money leaving the country.

The constitution gives citizenship to those under the juristiction of the United States. Foriegn countries are not under this juristiction so women crossing our border just to give birth does not give automatic citizenship to the baby. The 14th amendment was added to give citizenship to former slaves and give them the rights of citizens. It was not put there to give the children of illegal aliens the rights given to Americans.

Many in our government say we need to fix the problem by adding guest worker programs but we already have guest worker visas for those who can fill jobs there are no Americans to do. I worked with many foreign nurses who filled vacant positions. We could fill many of the other positions the President says Americans won't do if we stopped paying people to not work. Welfare recipients could clean houses and pick fruit. These are honorable jobs which I did myself at one time; and if we did our own work the wages for these types of jobs would go up instead of down.

Some solutions to illegal immigration would consist of tighter control of the borders which means a fence on the Mexican side, increased number of agents and surveillance cameras. Forbidding citizens from some countries to enter at all and be more vigilant of those staying on visas could help increase our security. Immediate deportation, fining employers and property owners who knowingly hire and rent to them, and putting an established amount of time required to apply for citizenship in the future, if ever, are also workable solutions.

The safety and security of our country are more important than any economic gain we perceive to be of benefit. We can no longer allow anyone to sneak into our country, whether they want economic benefits or whether they are planning terrorist attacks.

America is for Americans and our guests; no one else.
